Good CSR Makes For Good Chinese Companies
The 2005 GOTONE Conference on Constructing a Harmonious Society, held in Nanchang in China, was told that companies which establish good industrial relations based on respect for worker rights emerge stronger, more competitive and more profitable. The Conference is aimed at informing Chinese companies about developments in corporate social responsibility worldwide.
In comments to the Conference, Neil Kearney, General Secretary of the Brussels-based International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation said that over the past decade as the globalisation process deepened too many companies became involved in a race to the bottom instead of seeking salvation in innovation, productivity, quality and skills enhancement. "It was 'all eyes to the floor' instead of 'all eyes to the sky'", said Mr. Kearney.
