Shanghai: World Expo Won't Destroy Historic Buildings
In response to public concern that the construction project for the 2010 World Exposition may destroy some historic buildings in the city, Jiao Yang, a representative from Shanghai Municipal Government, says that there is no need to worry.
Jiao says the government has attached great importance to protecting old buildings and sceneries while building some new areas to prepare for the Expo.
Jiao says that Shanghai Government has been working on establishing and gradually improving the supervision system of historical and cultural heritage since 2003.
The Shanghai Municipal Government is also planning to extend its protection scope and put more protection measures in to practice.
