Chinese White Paper Lists Environmental Accomplishments
China's Information Office of the State Council has issued "Environmental Protection in China (1996-2005)", a white paper detailing Chinese government efforts to protect the environment.
According to the white paper, China's investment into pollution control between 1996 and 2004 reached RMB952.27 billion.
"The Chinese government and the Chinese people will join all other governments and peoples in the world in protecting the Earth–our beautiful home," the paper says.
Environmental achievments listed in the paper include:
- China's State Council has developed over 50 administrative regulations.
- 16,000 enterprises have been closed for having discharged pollutants.
- There are now 3,226 environmental protection administration departments at different levels all over the country.
