Xinhua reports that an official Chinese government statement is asking companies not to impose overtime on staff or subject them to long periods outside in hot weather.

China's Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, State Administration of Work Safety and All-China Federation of Trade Unions say that companies will face unspecified fines if they fail to comply.

China is currently going through one of its hottest summers in the past 50 years.

The news report says the government agencies urged health authorities to raise public awareness of the dangers of the heat and called on hospitals to give timely treatment to heatstroke patients and report the cases to the authorities.
