SMDIC Closes 368 Internet Cafes
The Shanghai Municipal Department of Industry and Commerce says that since July this year, it has found 368 illegal netcafes operating in the city.
SMDIC says it has confiscated 2284 computers and recovered more than RMB55000 from these illegal locations.
Most of those netcafes were closed because they lacked business licenses, and SMDIC says that the netcafes exhibited other similar characteristics.
For example, over 80% of them were run by migrant workers who themselves lacked acceptable licenses to operate Shanghai businesses. 82% of the netcafes had less than 15 computers and catered to undocumented migrant workers.
