Shanghai To Include Senior Citizens In Social Insurance System
In September, the Shanghai Municipal Government will start providing a social security system designed for elderly residents without basic insurance.
This new system is available to all Shanghainese who are at least 70 years old and have lived in Shanghai for more than 30 years.
The government will offer funds for their medical and social insurance. The standard amount of funds is RMB460 for each person per month. In addition, 50% of their medical expenses for emergency treatment and 70% of hospital expenses can be handled by this new system.
Elderly residents can register for this system by visiting their local community service center and providing their valid identification documents.
