The State Environmental Protection Administration of China says that China will implement the third phase and the fourth phase of automobile emission standards in 2007 and 2010, respectively.

The latest statistics from SEPA show that China has become the third largest automobile manufacturing country in the world with an annual production of 5 million vehicles.

Zhao Yingmin, a director from SEPA, introduced to local media that with the two new standards put in place, there will be less oxidation nitrogen emissions, less hydrocarbon emissions and less carbon monoxide emissions from 2008 to 2012, which will bring great environmental benefits to the society. With each new phase of emission standards put in practice, the pollutants produced by each engine will be reduced by 30%.
