Beijing Halts Sales Of Turbot

The Beijing Food Security Office has issued an emergency order banning the sales of turbot fish because it contains harmful chemicals.
A few days ago, turbot was found in Shanghai to contain too much chemical residue and it was immediately banned from the markets there. Following that, concerned departments in Beijing immediately organized an inspection on the turbot sold in Beijing and they too have found nitrofurans and malachite green in the samples of turbot during the inspection.
Principals of relevant seafood markets in Beijing, such as Gongjiao Tianmin market and Dahongmen Seafood Wholesale, have all accepted the order of Beijing Food Security Office and taken measures to stop the sale of turbot.
These chemicals found in turbot will not do immediate harm, but they may cause cancer if consumed over a long term.
