Penalties For Beijing Hotels That Lack Adequate Emergency Exit Systems
The Beijing Tourism Administration has released a standard regarding the safety of star-grade hotels in the city and plans to implement it starting April 1, 2007.
The standard, which is called "Stipulations on Safe Operations of Star-grade Hotels in Beijing", requires all star-grade hotels in the city to set emergency exit signs or other safety marks in their hotels, and use broadcasting systems to notify guests of an emergency in both English and Chinese in areas that have not been covered by the safety signs.
Those hotels that fail to set a sign or other safety marks will face a fine of RMB5000-30000, and those who do not use the radio broadcasting system will be fined RMB5000-20000.
