Ding Xiangyang, vice mayor of Beijing, said that Beijing would strengthen their supervision on travel enterprises this year.

Ding said that each month the government would publish a list, ranking travel firms, including travel agencies, hotels, restaurants and tour guides, and then issue the list to the public. The listing would be updated according to consumers' feedback.

Each quarter, they will revoke the qualifications and business licenses of those firms who are ranked at the bottom of the list. This means many unqualified hotels and travel angencies will be cleared out of the market.

Having developed for more than 20 years, the travel industry in China has already formed a large market, but there are still many problems. According to the statistics just issued by China National Tourism Administration, travel supervision departments in China handled 10,465 complaints in 2006, which increased by nearly 50% from 2005.
