Real estate firm Shanghai Greenland Group has invested RMB2 million to set up a charity foundation which will be used to focus on social welfare in China.

As an enterprise with strong sense of corporate social responsibility, Greenland says it has maintained its concept of creating wholesome lives in all its business pursuits. Since its establishment 15 years ago, Greenland has built a batch of symbolic public green areas in downtown Shanghai with an investment of RMB300 million. It has also donated more than RMB100 million to welfare, charity and army support organizations.

In September 2004, the company donated RMB50,000 to adopt a panda cub and name her Xin Li. The money that the Greenland Group donated was used to buy food and support the animal's health at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

Greenland now has its real estate projects extended to more than 20 cities in China. A company spokesman says its awareness of fulfilling social responsibility has contributed much to the charity and welfare movement in China.
