Music Companies Target Alibaba's Yahoo China For Illegal Downloads
Eleven international music companies are going after Yahoo China for providing illegal online music downloads.
The plaintiffs include Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, and they are suing Alibaba, which runs Yahoo China, for a total of RMB5.5 million for their combined economic losses. They are also asking Alibaba to stop having Yahoo China infringe on their copyrights.
The complaint says Yahoo China provided 229 Chinese and English songs to netizens for downloading.
The case will be heard by the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.
