B&Q Included On List Of Major Consumer Rights Cases In Jiangsu
In honor of the recent International Consumer Rights Day held on March 15, China's Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce has announced the ten biggest consumer-related court cases of recent months.
Topping the list is Nanjing Jinzeya Biomedicine Technology Development Company's illegal distribution of healthcare products. The company has been fined RMB900,000. Next is Wuxi Xishan B&Q's selling of unqualified wooden floors. The store has been asked to pay RMB1000 for testing the authenticity of the floor, to also refund consumers, and to pay RMB65,731.16 in fines.
Two hospitals — the Xinxi City TCM Hospital and People's Hospital — were found selling daily necessities to patients at a price three to six times that of the market price. The two hospitals have been fined RMB80,000 and RMB170,000, respectively. Hongze County Xianju Drugstore's overstatement of medicine's effectiveness was also noted, for which the store has been asked to stop its improper behavior and pay a RMB10000 fine.
Suzhou Zhouzhuang hotel's cheating of foreign tourists is also on the list. It says that two foreign tourists consumed only RMB295 at the hotel, but the hotel charged them RMB695. The hotel has been asked to return the extra RMB400 to the tourists, make an apology to them and pay RMB12000 in fines.
Donghai County Power Supply Company was accused of illegal collection of power use deposit from users. The company has been fined RMB180,000.
Yancheng Century Mart was found to be cheating consumers by adding low quality rice to rice of higher standards in a sales promotion. The supermarket has bseen its illegal income of RMB516.30 confiscated and it has been fined RMB15000.
Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce said that Hanjiang Cigarette and Alcohol Company sold fake "Five-Star" wine, and the company has been asked to double compensate consumers and pay a RMB7400 fine.
Home owners were not happy with Zhenjiang Qiangying Real Estate Development Company's use of unqualified doors for their housing properties. The company has been asked to change the doors and compensate home owners RMB600 for each door.
Finally, Yongxin Real Estate Development Company forced house buyers to pay RMB400 for IPTV. The company has been fined RMB15000 for coercive selling of the product.
