China To Reduce Railway Pollution By 10% Before 2010
China's Ministry of Railway has announced the implementation of their environmental protection blueprint during the 11th Five-year Plan Period in which they say that they will reduce pollution caused by railway by 10% by 2010.
According to the 11th five-year railway environmental protection plan, which set goals from 2006 to 2010, emission of sulfur dioxide in railway sector will be limited to 41,818 tons in 2010. Meanwhile, it plans to grow plants along 30,000 kilometers of China's railway system.
The Ministry plans to strengthen inspection on environmental protection in railway construction projects, speed up management of passenger train waste and develop advanced technologies, a spokesman said without giving further details.
