Heilongjiang Launches Home For Children Of Migrants
Heilongjiang Provincial Committee and Suihua Municipal Youth League Commission have jointly unveiled a special home for "left behind" children at Xinli Primary School in Xinli Village of Suihua City.
These children are sons and daughters of migrant workers who have left the area to seek better opportunities in big cities. Local media reports that there are about 20 million children of migrants in the countryside of China. Heilongjiang Province alone has more than 200,000 such children and Suihua city up to 30000.
According to media reports, the local youth league has donated computers, stationery and sports facilities for the home and given telephone cards and other gifts worth over RMB30000 to more than 300 children.
Heilongjiang Provincial Youth Party League say its has already constructed more then 100 homes like this one, providing safe and sanitary accommodations and food as well as other related services and education for children whose parents have gone to work in cities.
