Chinese Online Media Jointly Combat False News Reports
More than 20 online media companies have jointly issued a proposal to online media across the country, calling on them to fight against fake news and create a harmonious online news environment.
The 20 companies include China.com.cn, baoye.net, jxnews.com.cn, qianlong.com, rednet.com.cn, huash.com, dahe.cn, anhuinews.com, and hebeidaily.com.cn. A reporter in Beijing had earlier this month concocted a fake news story that claimed Chinese dumplings were being filled with cardboard. The reporter later said the story was fake.
These companies say they will carefully study the keynote speech made by Chinese president Hu Jintao at the Central Party School, learn the relevant laws and regulations and strive to build up a self-disciplined and righteous news work team. They will also resist spreading false news and work to cleanse the online environment.
