Pharmaceutical Factories Closed After Breaking Environmental Rules
Two pharmaceutical companies in China have been asked to stop operations after breaking environmental violations.
The two companies are Henan Huaxing Pharmaceutical Factory and Fujian Fukang Medicine Company. Henan Huaxing Pharmaceutical Factory is one of the largest penicillin industry manufacturers in China and Fujian Fukang Medicine Company is an antibiotics manufacturer.
Huaxing had been asked to stop its business before July 31, 2007 because of two straight violations of dense waste water emissions on May 31, 2007 and July 18, 2007. Zhang Zhengyi, vice president of Huaxing has told local media that most of their business had been stopped and only a small portion of their goods are now being sold. He estimates that the factory might resume operation in a couple of months.
Fujian Fukang Medicine Company, which has been listed one of the top eleven polluting companies in Fuzhou city, has been asked to stop the business also for emitting polluted water. There has been no word yet from this company on how it plans to correct its behavior.
