Chongqing Plans Migrant Worker Day
Chongqing will be the first city in China to set aside a special day for migrant workers.
According to news on Sina.com, Chongqing plans to make the first Sunday of November "Chongqing Migrant Workers' Day" in a bid to better integrate the city's more than 4 million migrant workers into the fabric of the growing metropolis.
Tong Xiaoping, vice mayor of Chongqing Municipality, introduced at a recent meeting that the Chongqing Migrant Workers' Day is set to create a good environment for respecting, caring and helping migrant workers and build up a good working and living environment for them so that they can quickly integrate into city life and make contributions to the city's economy. Dong said that the Migrant Workers' Day will play an important role in the construction of a harmonious Chongqing.
The proposal is currently waiting for approval by the Chongqing Municipal Government.
