Shanxi Will Invest RMB3.3 Billion On Landfills
Shanxi Province in central China is investing about RMB3.3 billion to build 100 landfill stations to process the province's urban waste.
According to the Shanxi Environment Department, the Province will add 108 new projects during the 11th Five-year Plan Period, which are expected to process about 17469 tons of domestic waste daily, for the harmless disposal of urban domestic waste. The Department says that the construction will include 100 domestic waste landfills and waste selection, compost and burning systems and the corresponding waste delivery and transfer systems.
The construction of urban waste disposal facilities is said to be an important part of Shanxi's clean environment project "Blue Sky and Clear Water" and a basic means for the province to solve the troublesome waste problem in the modern society. Shanxi will also conduct waste disposal programs in the counties along highways, the Fenhe River area, the Haihe River area, and the Yellow River areas.
Shanxi has long been famous for its coal industry. However, this single economic structure and high energy consumption have also made the province one of the most seriously polluted areas in China.
