Hong Kong Publicizes January's Pollution Convictions
According to the website of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administration Region, 38 convictions were recorded in January 2008 for the infringement of the anti-pollution rule of Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department.
Of the 38 convictions, 18 were about the violation of the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 17 were about the infringement of the Waste Disposal Ordinance, two were about breach of the Water Pollution Control Ordinance and one was about the violation of the Noise Control Ordinance.
Two unnamed companies were each fined HK$30,000 for importing banned waste without permission. In addition, two unnamed people were each sentenced to two months' imprisonment for exporting banned waste without a permit.
