Jiangsu Issues Protection Rules For Migrant Workers
Jiangsu Provincial Government has reviewed and passed the "Jiangsu Migrant Workers' Right Protection Rule", which is expected to be formally issued soon.
The Rule provides more effective measures in protecting migrant workers' rights through employment services, salary, insurance, supervision, and legal responsibilities. Regarding their salary, the Rule says that employers should pay the salary to the migrant workers directly and issue them a salary slip at the same time. The Rule also says that employers must not collect or charge deposits or other unreasonable fees from migrant workers when hiring them, nor should they seize migrant workers' personal identity certificates.
For healthcare, the Rule stipulates that employers should offer medical insurance for migrant workers and pay insurance fees for them to cover serious diseases.
In addition, to solve the difficulty of receiving education for migrant workers' children, the Rule says that schools must not charge any sponsorship fee from migrant workers when enrolling their children and should arrange the same conditions for them as those of the local students.
