Hubei Pressures Companies To Fulfill Their Donation Pledges
Hubei Provincial Civil Administration said that they would expose those companies that intend to promote themselves through providing false donations.
In early 2008, Hubei Province suffered from the most severe blizzard since 1954 and at that time many companies promised to donate funds to help communities recover from the disaster. But later some of them broke their word and did not make their donations. Companies that have not fulfilled their promise of making their donations are mainly those that promised to do so at the local TV station's Disaster Relief Party and those that have not signed a formal donation contract with the local civil affairs department.
A representative from HPCA said that they would call the companies that had promised to make the donation to urge them to fulfill their commitment and send a letter to those who still failed to fulfill their promise after the telephone call urging them to make the donation. HPCA would then expose companies if they fail to donate before the stated deadline.
As of March 1, 2008, HPCA had received RMB99.84 million of pledged donations, but only RMB74.94 were transmitted to HPCA's bank account.
