Mainland Chinese Internet users have launched an online campaign urging a consumer boycott of Procter & Gamble products because the parents of the company's celebrity endorser, Taiwanese model Lin Chi-ling, favor independence for their home island.
The backlash came after Lin's mother greeted her daughter at the airport in Taiwan with a welcome-home banner reflecting pro-independence sentiment for Taiwan following Lin's return from China after a horse-riding accident, Hong Kong's pro-China newspaper Wen Wei Po reported yesterday.
Procter & Gamble's representatives in Taiwan could not be immediately reached for comment.
