New Labor Survey Shows Chinese Electronic Engineering Salary Trends

Global Sources' annual Salary and Career Development Survey shows electronic engineers in mainland China receive average annual salaries of US$7,708.
75% recently received pay increases averaging 11%; and 59% received performance-based bonuses averaging US$1,724.
A total of 2,682 electronic engineers responded to the survey conducted by Global Sources publication Electronic Engineering Times-China. Benefits offered as part of compensation packages include:
- Pension plans — received by 75% of electronic engineers
- Medical/health insurance — 72%
- Life insurance — 44%
- Food and beverage allowance — 41%
Respondents are typically 30 years old and work 47 hours a week. 28% work in consumer electronics, 21% in
communications, 10% in industrial controls and 9% in computer systems and peripherals.
Cash income and skills development top criteria in evaluating job opportunities for these workers. In evaluating new employment opportunities, electronic engineers rated total cash income the most important factor with a rating of 4.5 on a five-point scale.
