This week the National People's Congress endorsed Premier Wen Jiabao's work report and the country's 11th Five-Year Plan, which promotes the country's new economic policies of relying on rural development and technological progress. More than 97% of the delegates voted for the plan.
Along with a 7.5% growth rate for the five years until 2010, the plan aims at reduced energy consumption and pollution.
In general, the plan also aims at reducing the gaps bewteen the rich and poor of China.
The NPC also ratified the plan for economic and social development in 2006, central budget for 2006, as well as the work reports of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate to the Tenth NPC's fourth session.
