Greenpeace says Hong Kong's Parknshop and Wellcome supermarket chains are selling vegetables containing illegal pesticides and excessive pesticide residue.
Greenpeace says its sampling and investigation was conducted from November 2005 to March 2006. In one Choi Sum sample collected in Wellcome's store, high level of pesticide residue–240 times over the EU standard–was found.
Greenpeace calls on both supermarket chains to withdraw those vegetables immediately, and at the same time implement more stringent surveillance on vegetable source and pesticide testing.
In response to Greenpeace's findings, Parknshop has conducted their own investigation and already presented a report to Greenpeace.
Wellcome has also terminated contracts with problematic supplier.
