Carrefour Accused Of Trademark Violation In Shanghai

Finding that Carrefour's Shanghai Wuning Store was selling fake Louis Vuitton bags, the Louis Vuitton Company is now planning to sue the French megastore retailer for RMB500,000 and relevant legal fees.

Carrefour was apparently selling bags with an LV trademark for RMB49.90 each, which is nearly 180 times less than the price of real LV bags. LV says that Carrefour has violated its trademark by selling this kind of bag.

Carrefour however argues that the supplier of the bags should be responsible for the fake product and it should not be held accountable.

The case has yet to head to court, so it is still possible for the parties to settle.
