To maintain the transparency of the standards in assessing star-grade hotels, China's National Star-Grade Hotel Assessment Commission will conduct a new review starting next month.
The review will focus only on star-grade hotels that have retained their star grade for more than five years.
The Commission says that it will order those star-grade holders that have deficiencies to correct their problems or they will be downgraded.
This is the first time that the Commission has decided to re-evaluate the quality of hotels that hold the qualification for more than five years.
There are more than 12,000 star-grade hotels in China, and 279 of them are 5-star hotels. The Commission will be responsible for re-evaluating the 5-star hotels, and its branches at various local levels will be responsible for checking those below the 5-star level.
