China Provides Financial Support To Migrants At Three Gorges Project
China will soon promulgate a new policy to support to people who have to relocate as a result of the construction of the Three Gorges Project. The policy will also provide them financial support for 20 years.
Li Yongan, general manager of China Three Gorges Project Corporation, says that by the end of March 2006, a RMB51.5 billion fund had been in place for supporting migrants' relocation and 11 million people have been relocated.
According to Li, the migrants' life condition has been greatly improved after the relocation and the housing space for each has reached 40 square meter per capita.
Cao Guangjing, deputy general manager of China Three Gorges Project Corporation, says the support funds for the migrants will be allocated from the profits from the hydropower yielded by the reservoir.
