The All China Federation of Trade Unions says that all the 62 Wal-Mart stores in China now have established their trade unions, and more than 6000 workers have already received membership within the unions.

On July 29, workers of Wal-Mart Jinjiang Store in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, held their first membership meeting after their trade union was set up, which marked the establishment of the first union in the world's largest supermarket chain in China. One week later, Wal-Mart China announced the start of trade unions in all of its stores in China. By the end of September, all the Wal-Mart reported to have unions.

ACFTU's vice chairman Xu Deming says that the establishment of Wal-Mart's trade unions will greatly promote the development of unions in other foreign companies in China.

Wal-Mart entered the Chinese market in 1996. Wal-Mart opened its first stores, respectively, in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province and Chengdu, Sichuan Province this past week.
