Illegal Television Ads Exposed In Chinese Health Sector

China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce and the State Food and Drug Administration have jointly issued a proclamation exposing 16 television ads that have been accused of misleading consumers.
According to the two departments, who scrutinized the satellite TV channels in some provinces where the illegal advertisements were broadcast, most of the advertisements were about medicine. The problems include the advertisers' publishing of the advertisements without approval, their release of prescription medicines on the mass media, and their exaggeration of the medicines' functions.
The 16 television advertisements were broadcast by eight television stations:
1. Gansu Satellite TV's release of and advertisement for Beijing Changcheng Pharmaceutical's Shumianpian, a medicine for curing insomnia and other sleep-related ailments, and Liaoning Lvdan Yaoye Company's Xiaotangling Jiaonang for curing diabetes.
2. Inner Mongolian Satellite TV station's release of an advertisement for Lanruoya-branded Shulimeipian healthcare food, and Changchun Yingping Yaoye Company's Xiaoke Jiangtang Pian for reducing blood sugar levels.
3. Shaanxi Satellite TV's release of the advertisement for Senlu Yishen Jiaonang healthcare food, and Jilin Jichun Group Pharmaceutical Company's Liangxue Qufeng Syrup.
4. Ningxia Satellite TV station's release of an advertisement for Kelier freckle elimination cosmetics, and Beijing Yinxiang Medical GroupCompany's Tonglinjiaonang.
5. Shanxi Satellite TV station's release of the advertisement of Beijing Yinxiang Medical Group Company's Jieyuanshenkeli and a product that is shown as Bilvsu Jiaonang.
6. Heilongjiang Satellite TV station's release of the advertisement of Jilin Baixingtang Pharmaceutical Company's Ganlu Xiaoke Jiaonang, and Jinlin Zhengtai Pharmaceutical Holdings Company's Jinkexi Jiaonang.
7. Tianjin Satellite TV's release of the advertisement of Libanting Freckle Elimination cosmetics and Beijing Yinxiang Medical Group Company's Yinhuanggan Fukeli.
8. Hebei Satellite TV's release of the advertisement for Jilin Zhengtai Pharmaceutical Holdings Company's Kangjike Xiaopian and Shanxi Dongtai Pharmaceutical Company's Yinxie Jiaonang.
SAIC has required its affiliates at various levels to stop the running of these advertisements and to punish the advertisers in accordance with local and national regulations.
