The China Europe International Business School held its second annual "Being Globally Responsible Conference", with focus on corporate social responsibility from over a dozen speakers and attendees from over ten universities throughout Asia.
The three-day event featuring keynote speeches by distinguished guests, workshops, networking banquets, company visits, and presentations. Sponsored by Degussa, Atlas Copco, Gamesa, and ChinaCSR.com, attendees were introduced to various sustainable business models.
William Valentino, general manager of communications at Bayer China, gave a talk on tools MBA students need to build sustainable businesses. Junie Tong, founder of Catalyst Foundation and Global Dialectic, provided attendees with a seminar on the interdisciplinary 'finance-in-society' model with Chinese characteristics. Danny Levinson, publisher of the daily ChinaCSR.com website and the monthly China CSR magazine, gave a workshop on how CSR managers can best juggle their responsibilities with media outlets and how to differentiate the various types of media.
The objectives of the event were to increase the awareness of CSR in the Asia Pacific region; to learn what CSR is, from business leaders and how it is being implemented in the business world; to encourage and involve MBA students in CSR; and to educate students about CSR as a corporate strategy, and not simply being volunteerism nor making donations.
Other speakers came from York University, International Finance Corporation, Global Institute for Tomorrow, United Nations Global Compact Program, Environment News Trust, Transparency International, UNDP, and the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau.
