Following CCTV's report of fake human serum albumin being used on patients in Jilin Province, China's State Food and Drug Administration has begun to investigate the use of the fake substance across the country.
Yan Jiangying, a spokesperson from SFDA, has told local media that because the fake human albumin had been used in many provinces, the SFDA began a special investigation in March 2007 and it had already strengthened the management on blood products.
Human albumin is distilled from a healthy human body to help increase blood content, detoxification and nutritional supply. In recent years, the function of human albumin has been over-exaggerated which has resulted in an abuse of it. Also, as the supply falls short of demand, much fake human albumin has come out.
The SFDA has already identified a batch of counterfeit human albumin in Jilin, Shanxi, Hubei, Hunan, Ningxia, Qinghai and Chongqing and says it has taken effective measures to prevent these fake products from spreading into other regions. The relevant persons involved have reportedly already been arrested.
