Anhui Provincial Quality Supervision Department has issued an emergency circular to recall the problematic glutinous rice dumpling made by Hefei Wanmaomao Deepfreeze Food Company.
The Quality Supervision Department of Anhui Province and Hefei Municipality checked Hefei Wanmaomao on June 16 after receiving a report from consumers and they found the company was going to sell more than 2000 kg of expired rice dumplings from 2005. So far, a total of 1400 kg of such problematic rice dumplings have been recalled and Wanmaomao's production has been suspended.
This is the second reported time that this company has sold expired dumplings, but there is no word yet on possible penalties it will face.
The circular also urges all local bureaus to strengthen management of food safety during the Dragon Boat Festival.
