News from Wuxi Municipal Government is that the city will close 772 chemical factories by the end of this year.
The municipality also says that by that time it will complete its three-year special campaign within the chemical industry two years ahead of schedule. There are totally 1942 medium and small size chemical factories in Wuxi. According to the city's plan issued last year, 772 of such chemical factories shall be closed by the end of 2009 and all of the 1942 factories shall be shut before 2010.
The closures are also said to be part of efforts to get rid of the pollutants for the Taihu Lake which was attacked by blue-green algae a few weeks ago.
