Beijing is facing greater pressure to achieve the goal of having 245 blue sky days each year, with only 110 blue sky days achieved in the first half of this year.

Beijing Municipal Environment Protection Bureau said in a press release that with half a year passed, the task of achieving expected blue sky days has not been completed, so they face bigger pressure in the second half of this year to ensure the improvement of the capital city's air quality.

Beijing's Blue Sky Plan refers to the total days that the city's air quality must reach Class 1 or Class 2 in a year. For 2007, the city expects to achieve 245 days of blue sky.

Despite this, Beijing's air quality is reportedly slowly improving. Compared with 1998 when there was 141 days that were medium or seriously polluted, the city completed the task of Blue Sky Program in 2006 with 238 blue days.
