Shaanxi Province's vice governor Hong Feng presided a special meeting on the promotion of methanol fuel use and said that the methanol would be promoted across Shaanxi Province starting in October 2007.

China Finance Online reports that the Shaanxi Provincial Government has attached much importance to methanol gasoline. On a meeting held July 4, 2005, they made a general plan on the development of methanol gasoline in the province and set up a work team to promote the application of the methanol fuel.

A two-year trial use of methanol in four cities of Yan'an, Baoji, Yulin and Xi'an shows that it is now mature to promote the use of methanol gasoline, which is more environmentally friendly than common gasoline in the province.

In addition to direct use as a fuel, methanol is used as a component in the chemical formation of biodiesel fuel.
