China's Ministry of Information Industry and Pony Lab for Physical and Chemical Analysis jointly held the Shanghai Environment Dictate Seminar 2007 at Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Center, introducing the environment orders and regulations of China and other countries as well as the latest information about the control of poisonous and harmful substance to electronics manufacturers in Shanghai.
Several hundred of representatives from companies like Nokia, Motorola, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips and Sony attended the event and discussed the challenges they met during their production and management as well as the solutions to these challenges.
This is the fifth time that MII and Pony held the meeting this year. In order to respond to EU's RoHS order which requires all electrical and electronic products exported to the European market limit the use of six kinds of harmful chemicals of lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium (VI), PBB and PBDE, China released a management measure on the pollution control of electronic products in February 2006 (which is known as China's RoHS order) in which it specified the emission of poisonous chemicals in electronic products. The measure was formally enacted on March 1, 2007.
Huang Jianzhong, an official from MII who is also a drafter of that legal measure, and Lei Wen, an expert on electronics products pollution control, held a discussion at the forum on the content and the procedures of the Chinese version of RoHS. They emphasized that MII is cooperating with the relevant departments to strengthen the implementation of the measure among Chinese enterprises.
