Xi'an Municipal Health Supervision Department says that they will take measures to ensure food safety during the Chinese New Year and will conduct a thorough check on hotels and restaurants across the city on February 6, 2008, the eve of the Spring Festival.

XMHSD has issued a circular, asking hotels and restaurants that offer New Year's Eve dinners to consumers to guarantee their food safety by setting up a special food sanitation management department to carry out the relevant sanitation rules, and in the meantime control possible contamination during food processing to eliminate risks of food poisoning.

With the increase of people's living standards in recent years, many Chinese people have chosen to eat at the comfortable hotels on Chinese New Year's Eve, which is regarded as one of the most important days of the Chinese calendar. However, the safety and sanitation of the dinner on that day has become a main concern as many hotels and restaurants over the past year have been found lacking in quality sanitation facilities.
