In recognition of its contribution and leadership in providing innovative and energy-efficient solutions to the construction industry, BaySystems has been honored with the "Top 10 Building Energy Efficiency Enterprises" award from the Ministry of Construction at their Annual Forum on Energy Conservation in Construction in China.

"It is a great honor to be among the first to receive this prestigious award," said Norman Tse, project manager BaySystems Insulation of the Polyurethanes Business Unit at Bayer MaterialScience AsiaPacific. "Bayer MaterialScience's polyurethane rigid foam systems make a significant contribution to the development of China's construction industry by providing builders with the solutions they need to meet China's energy efficiency standards."

BaySystems is the umbrella brand for the global polyurethanes systems business of the company.

"Due to exceptional insulation properties and a high durability, polyurethane rigid-foam solutions are suitable for various types of buildings and provide long-term thermal insulation even in the most challenging conditions," explained Stefan Kashelikar, Marketing Director of BaySystems Insulation at Bayer MaterialScience AsiaPacific. "Through the global BaySystems network we are able to provide users with a customized service. Customers can benefit from proximity to this network and from the fact that our know-how is available globally."

In keeping with these revolutionary solutions, last year BaySystems set the benchmark for eco-refurbishment in China with its contribution to the renovation of the Sino-German GTZ Tangshan project and Tongji University's Wenyuan Building. A total of 3,600 square meters of the roof, walls and floor of the centre, the east and west entrance lobby and the staircases of the Wenyuan Building were covered with polyurethane rigid foam. The result is a highly energy efficient performance of the office building, which more than satisfies the Chinese governments's ambitious targets for cutting energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

In addition to its work in eco-refurbishment, BaySystems continues to sustain its record as a pioneer in the industry by offering state-of-the-art new technologies that pave the way for energy conservation. Gas phase phosgenation for example, developed by Bayer MaterialScience, is an innovative and unrivalled process technology for manufacturing toluene diisocyanate. This process saves around 80% of solvents and consequently uses up to 60% less energy, it also reduces the investment costs involved in constructing world-scale production plants by 20%.
