Guangzhou will stop selling cigarettes for one day on May 31, the World No Tobacco Day.
Guangzhou Patriotic Health Office and Guangzhou Tobacco Control Association have jointly issued a statement, asking all the cigarette sellers of the city to stop selling cigarettes for one day on the World No Tobacco Day. They've asked the cigarette dealers to also place a sign saying "Stopped Selling Cigarettes" in front of their counters on the day and said that concerned government departments will conduct a spot check on this.
According to Guangzhou Patriotic Health Office, the activity will be jointly organized by Guangzhou Municipal Trade Commission and Guangzhou Municipal Transportation Commission. Dealers of various levels, including department stores, supermarkets, hotels, individual businesses and restaurants will be involved.
The theme of this year's global No Tobacco Day is "Tobacco-Free Youth" and it is organized by the World Health Organization.
