China Huaneng Releases Sustainable Development Report

China Huaneng Group has released its China Huaneng Group Sustainable Development Report 2007, which is the second report Huaneng has released.
The report mainly covers six area, showing the achievements Huaneng has obtained in fulfilling security responsibility, environmental responsibility, economic responsibility and social responsibility.
The general manager of Huaneng, Cao Peixi, says in his introduction that Huaneng made satisfactory progress in the year 2007, realizing the harmonious development of the enterprise, society, and the environment.
In 2007, Huaneng has completed 229 energy-conservation reconstruction projects, which contributed a lot to environmental protection. Production wastewater discharge was 58.1 million tons, and the 12 power plants realized zero discharge. Sulfur dioxide emissions were decreased by 8.88% compared to 2006;the comprehensive utilization rate of desulfurization gypsum reached 68.2%; and the comprehensive utilization rate of fly ash reached 68.3%, an increase of 7.5%.
In November 2007, Huaneng joined the UN Global Compact, becoming the first Chinese power enterprise in this organization.
