A spokesman for Huawei Technologies, which was accused of illegal employment practices by the Indian Government, said to local media that the company has already received the letter by Indian Government, and it has begun to deal with the problems the Indian Ministry of Labor and Employment had mentioned in that letter.
The company stated that currently there are 1,100 employees in India, and 99% of them are Indian engineers and marketing staff. In addition, there are another 200 employees from its parent company in China with short-term business visas whose main duty is to carry out training, negotiate contracts with Indian clients, and to meet with key clients to solve some special problems. They will return to China after the training is over, according to Huawei.
As for tax evasion, Huawei said it has been always strictly observed local tax laws and regulations; hence there is no case of not paying income tax. According to local laws, Chinese visiting India on business visas should pay taxes once their stay in the country exceeds 183 days.
