The China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation and Yum Brands, Inc, China, together with the United Nations World Food Programme and Sohu.com, have announced a nationwide fundraising activity to kick off in Beijing.
From October 9 to October 19, consumers who come to KFC, Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut Delivery, Pizza Hut Express, and East Dawning can donate CNY1 for the healthy growth of children in earthquake stricken areas. All the funds will be used for children's meals for whole year by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.
Chairman of CFPA Duan Yingbi said the activity offers new ideas and directions to charitable aid for reconstruction. Children in disaster areas are a special vulnerable group who need special care in their diet. CFPA will take strict control of these funds, and related information such as the amount of the funds and the granting of nutritious meals will be open to the public on the official website of CFPA and other media, Duan stated.
This activity is part of the World Hunger Relief program initiated by Yum Brands, Inc. and UNWFP in 2007 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Yum, aiming to raise funds for hungry people. This year, Yum! China, Yum! US Headquarters and UNWFP all agreed to change the theme from hunger relief to post earthquake reconstruction in China.
