The China National Household Paper Industry Association — part of the China Paper Association — released China's first Paper Diaper, Environment and Sustainability report at the "Harmonious Environment, Love Life — Paper Diaper, Environment and Sustainability Forum" held in Shanghai.
The report summed up the sustainable development of the paper diaper industry in China and abroad; requesting manufacturers to enhance their social responsibility and environmental awareness; and make use of natural resources more efficiently through the improvement of technologies and products.
In the past 20 years, manufacturers have striven to develop and adopt new high technology to reduce the average weight of a diaper by 40%, and the use of packaging materials by 41%, the report indicated. Through the environmental life cycle assessments of several research institutions, paper diapers and cloth diapers have nearly the same impact on the environment; but the performance of paper diapers exceeds that of cloth diapers due to the continual innovation of paper diapers.
