Beijing Municipal Social Relief Affairs Management Center has announced that they will enhance their relief efforts and take major action across the city to help wanderers and beggars come in out of the cold.
BMSRMC has issued a circular to the relief stations in each of the city's districts and counties, asking them to strengthen their patrol and actively persuade these homeless people to accept help. The relief stations are also asked to check and register the identity of each of those being helped. Apart from providing them food and accommodation, the relief stations will get in contact with the wanderers' families and buy a train or bus ticket for them if they'd like to go home.
As part of the action, staff of the relief stations of the 18 districts and counties of the city went go to street on the night of November 20 to find these wanderers. At the same time, people are advised to contact the relief stations if they find any wanderers.
Since August 2003 when the new relief policy was first carried out, Beijing has offered help to about 57,000 wanderers.
