China has donated food, to a total value of USD1 million, to Lesotho through the United Nations World Food Program as part of its donation to UNWFP this year.
In 2008, China provided USD2.5 million in emergency relief funds to UNWFP in addition to its regular USD2 million donation.
UNWFP will spend China's fund on purchasing 1,336 tons of corn flour from local farmers. The flour will be supplied to 75,000 Lesotho people over the next three months.
Due to a continuing drought and the rise of international grain prices, the southern African state of Lesotho has been facing a serious food shortage this year.
