An insider has disclosed to the local media that the Nanjing Branch of China Mobile, one of the largest mobile communications service providers in China, was found during a national audit to be involved in illegal charges of up to CNY30 million.

During a national special audit of telecom charges arranged by the State Development and Reform Commission, China Mobile's Nanjing Branch was found to have charged about CNY30 million illegally between January 2007 and August 2008.

A representative from China Mobile Nanjing has confirmed with the media that they had been audited, but this person said that they did not know the results of the audit.

According to the unnamed insider, China Mobile Nanjing's infringement is mainly procedural. The company began to implement its fees and tariffs without receiving the approval of the appropriate departments.

China Mobile's 2008 annual report shows that the company's net profit in the year reached CNY112.8 billion, ranking it the top earner of all China's state-owned companies.
