HP Announces Voluntary Recall And Replacement Program For Batteries

HP has announced a voluntary recall and replacement program for the battery packs used in certain types of HP notebooks.

Chinese media reports that certain battery packs used in HP notebook computer products may pose a potential safety hazard to customers as the batteries can overheat, and are a fire and burn hazard.

HP China says it will take full responsibility for its own products and would like to take active measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the product quality for customers. It states that it will advise customers by letter, email, in-store announcements, and bulletins about the program and will notify customers in some areas by telephone calls.

HP China says that not all HP notebook PCs listed have an hazardous battery packs. It encourages customers to validate all battery packs: both those shipped with notebook PCs and those purchased as options.
