News from the Yellow River Conservancy Commission is that the commission will set up a water utility efficiency control line to enhance the management of water use and restrict the waste of water.
A representative from YRCC told the media that YRCC will strictly review the water resource feasibility reports of various construction projects in an effort to limit high-water-consumption landscape or industrial projects, manage water resources and improve water-use efficiency from the source.
In addition, YRCC will promote water conservation with three measures: urging local government to adopt water-saving irrigation technology to increase water use efficiency; carrying out water rights allocation and transition polices; and setting up a water rights trading market to facilitate the optimum efficiency of water use.
At present, the water usage rate of the Yellow River has reached 79%. With the progress of the development of western China, water use for industrial programs is expected to increase dramatically. However, despite the imbalance between supply and demand, water is still seriously wasted in regions along the Yellow River.
